Job Description:
The Director, Network Contracting is responsible for leading the network strategy for the South Texas Markets (Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Rio Grande Valley) in Texas, which includes a staff of 20-25 employees, 277 hospitals, 20,000+ providers. This market leader will develop, design and manage unique network strategies to support each line of business to drive growth and optimize network performance. Additionally, market leaders build, attract, develop a best in class performing network contracting team while working with all other United teams and Optum.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute market strategies that drive growth for each line of business and are aligned with overall enterprise vision
- Develop / design / manage the medical network (physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, ancillary groups & facilities, etc.) to yield a distinct competitive, geographically, broad access, stable network that achieves objectives for unit cost performance and trend management, and produces an affordable, predictable product for all customers and business partners
- Lead a high performing contracting team to deliver on the growth, affordability and unit cost goals for each line of business while maintaining positive external relationships with providers
- Anticipates and adapts strategies as business needs evolve and change
- Build and maintain strong business relationships with Hospital, Physician, Pharmacy or Ancillary providers at the C-suite level
- Develop and execute provider specific negotiation strategies. Deploy various contracting and reimbursement methodologies (FFS, VBC, capitation) as warranted and appropriately leverage the capabilities of the enterprise to achieve most favorable negotiation outcome
- Ensure the network composition includes an appropriate distribution of provider specialties for each line of business and includes multiple narrow network products
Job Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience in a network management-related role handling complex network providers
- 8+ years of contracting experience in Network / Provider Management
- 8+ years of Healthcare experience
- 5+ years of experience in product pricing, financial modeling, and managing a budget
- 5+ years of supervisory experience
- Proven ability to communicate a vision and drive results
- Ability to synthesize data and information and translate it into actionable business strategies
- Ability to successfully function in a matrix organization
- Ability to successfully leverage relationships both internal and external
- Strong decision-making skills with ability to make decisions despite uncertainty and ambiguity
- Strong ability to operate and influence across the enterprise to drive critical decisions and execution
