Job Description:

The Centre for Blood Research is a world class facility dedicated to blood research on the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus. The CBR is a nucleus for education and training, research, and innovation in blood research, creating new knowledge, new academic and training programs, and fostering translation and innovation. UBC Michael Smith Laboratories (MSL) is an interdisciplinary research institute with field-defining research and world class faculty. Research at MSL and CBR yield biomedical technologies and therapies that advance our health and wellbeing.

Job Responsibilities:

• The successful candidate will be a passionate, self-driven, independent thinker with excellent organizational, oral, and written communication, excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic.
• Experience in high-throughput screening and/or metagenomic studies will be a further asset.
• Candidates with a strong background in gene cloning, genetic engineering, protein purification, enzymology and glycoscience will be considered.
• Experience in, and knowledge of, glycobiology and/or carbohydrate chemistry will be an asset.
• Candidates should have a strong research background, as demonstrated by past publications, accomplishments, and references.
• Competitive candidates must hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry or a related area of expertise.
• Candidate should have a strong passion to work in an interdisciplinary research environment.

Job Requirements:

• The anticipated start date is March 15th, 2022, or upon a date to be mutually agreed; funding has already been received, and the salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
• While this position is funded by federal agencies, the successful applicant will be expected to apply for external fellowship funding.
• The position is full-time for one year with the possibility of extension subject to funding availability and work performance.
• The funding package consists of a stipend and benefits.
