Job Description:

In this role, you will report to the Director of Environmental Policy within the Sustainability Team. You will work with a suite of our emerging environmental policy files across the team and gain valuable experience in working with internal cross functional teams to evaluate potential implications of emerging environmental policy to the various business units. You will also support the development and updating of tools to track and communicate the status of emerging policy and regulation across the organization including risk analysis and evaluation, supporting databases and the development of education and briefing materials.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research high priority current and draft government policy and potential implications on Suncor Energy businesses from an economic and political perspective
  • Support the development of emerging policy submissions
  • Perform research regarding international (and Canadian) best practice of regulation and policies to be used in policy positioning
  • Support Issue Leads and Managers in the Policy and Regulatory Issues Process as required
  • Update tools to track and communicate status of emerging policy files
  • Participate and support internal cross functional teams in understanding the impact of emerging government policy on specific areas of the business and support the development of policy positions

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This is an 8-month work term, starting in May 2022
  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.

  • Current enrolment in a sustainable development, science, policy or engineering undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Successful completion of sustainability/environmental policy courses
  • Previous experience with environmental policy or related work experience
