Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Senior Lead, Academic Immigration & Recruitment, the incumbent provides academic and immigration advising and support services to all academic divisions in the University, including the University of Toronto Mississauga and the University of Toronto Scarborough.
Job Responsibilities:
- Under direction, the Advisor prepares documentation related to the immigration process for foreign national academics, and provides related information to academic units, referring to the Senior Lead more complex cases.
- The Advisor provides timely, accurate, efficient, and comprehensive immigration support in a number of areas such as: appropriate immigration pathways for international contributors (ICs), new hire support (work permits, temporary resident visas) and the permanent residency process.
- The Advisor reviews and prepares documents in matters relating to the immigration of academic staff.
- The Advisor works effectively and cooperatively with all relevant stakeholders to ensure university compliance with all aspects of requisite immigration law and ensure accurate information is disseminated and quality guidance/services are provided.
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of the immigration needs for institutions of higher education.
- Proven ability in maintaining complex filing systems. Knowledge of the University’s academic policies and practices as they pertain to full-time, part-time and casual academic appointments is an asset.
- University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Willingness to work toward becoming a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) an asset.
Qualification & Experience:
- Advanced analytical and computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat required. Human Resources Information System (SAP) experience is an asset.
- Minimum four (4) years of experience supporting recruitment and immigration processes, specifically in Temporary Foreign Worker Program, International Mobility Pathways, work permits pursuant to trade agreements, recruitment requirements to support international hires and permanent residency applications is required.
