Job Description:

The Brake Systems Test & Development Engineer will be responsible for the vehicle brake system development and certification testing. The Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of brake systems testing including the coordination and planning of testing at the proving grounds and with design/release engineers located at the Tech Center in Auburn Hills, utilization of local work order system, data processing and analysis, test report generation, population and maintenance of test results database, the writing and maintenance of test procedures, the writing and maintenance of brake systems compliance reports and the development of new data analysis tools/templates. Identify product issues through vehicle test/evaluation and data assessment. Perform data processing, analysis, root cause and recommend solutions for vehicle and brake systems component issues. Some travel to the Arizona Proving Grounds is required in the winter months to support brake test trips. Determine root cause and short and long term corrective actions for issues discovered during development.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience with hydraulic brake systems, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control
  • Knowledge of federal brake test standards — FMVSS 135 & 105
  • Knowledge of European test standards — AMS, ECE-13H – Experience with data acquisition equipment, sensors and calibration
  • Background in automotive development including benchmarking, setting functional objectives, vehicle development and production launch
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills along with excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent work ethic with ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities

Qualification & Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Materials /Chemical/ Civil/
  • Aerospace/Computer/Computer Science or equivalent) from an ABET accredited or equivalent program
  • One year of relevant experience
  • Experience in data analysis, data mining and/or trend analysis
  • Fluency in MS Office (primarily Excel, Word and Outlook)
