Job Description:

The Aircraft Mechanic II- Sheetmetal MWO performs the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance and maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate problems by interpreting technical documentation such as aircraft Technical
  • Manuals, Maintenance Information and Action Messages and all technical guidance provided through government official representatives.
  • Uses a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
  • Performs scheduled inspections and assists in performing special inspections.
  • Uses a knowledge of electrical theory and of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
  • Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems.
  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Performs limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment as required.
  • The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
    Requires working knowledge of technical publications.
  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as; blueprints or manufactures’ manuals.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
  • Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools, special tools and aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Safely prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks and services.
  • Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components.
  • Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation.

Job Requirements:

  • Shall have a working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks & records, military technical publications, and the Army’s Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System, ULLS-AE.
  • Shall possess the level of experience necessary to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by skill class Mechanic I and must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.
  • Shall have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, repair procedures and replacement of parts: requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects and is required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.

Qualification & Experience:

Valid up-to-date A&P license; and (2) two years aviation maintenance experience, 3) three years rotary wing aircraft experience, with at least (2) two of the (3) years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). All experience must be within the (5) five most recent years is required
If no A&P, shall have the (3) three years aviation maintenance experience; consisting of (3) three years rotary wing aircraft experience, with at least (2) two of the (3) years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). All experience must be within the (5) five most recent years is required.
Completion of high school or equivalent and U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired, certification of education level is required.
