Job Description:
Within the Public Service, the Government of Canada is actively encouraging telework as departments plan for the eventual return to workplaces. In keeping with public health guidance, Fisheries and Oceans Canada has established a remote work stance for most of the positions. Longer term remote work agreements may be considered for this position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) leads the management of Canada’s fisheries and the safeguarding of Canadian waters.
- The Canadian Coast Guard, a Special Operating Agency within DFO, is responsible for services and programs that contribute to the safety, security, and accessibility of Canada’s waterways.
- The intent of this selection process is to staff 3 indeterminate positions.
- A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established and used to fill similar positions with various language requirements, tenures and security requirements within Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Job Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice
- Ability and willingness to travel within Canada using various means of transportation such as ships, planes, and helicopters, sometimes on short notice
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability and willingness to conduct site visits to vessels, shipyards, and other industrial sites, involving walking over rough terrain and/or climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, or other structures, maintaining balance on a moving vessel, and bending in awkward positions and working in confined spaces
- Ability and willingness to go to sea in ships under trial
