Job Description:

As Principal, External Reporting at CPA Canada, you will contribute to research, guidance and thought leadership initiatives to support our members today and prepare them for the future. You will also lead and complete research, offer guidance, and thought leadership activities related to external corporate reporting with a primary focus on public companies and emerging reporting issues.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop research, guidance and thought leadership materials (e.g., presentations, alerts, briefings, guides, webinars, etc.) aimed at helping stakeholders better understand and address critical external corporate reporting matters
  • Facilitate meetings of volunteer advisory groups and committees, both as a technical expert and skilled facilitator, to bring together people and ideas, resulting in timely and high-quality research, guidance and thought leadership
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant external stakeholders to enhance the profile of CPA Canada and the Canadian accounting profession,
  • Work collaboratively with other departments at CPA Canada to oversee the publication and promotion of resources, guidance, and thought leadership.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of business and reporting developments in Canada and globally which may impact current and future external reporting practices and recommend appropriate project proposals
  • Organize and participate in relevant panel discussions and presentations

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of reporting trends, regulatory changes, new standards and initiatives impacting external corporate reporting in Canada and globally
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience with public companies
  • Experience with accounting research and writing and editing external reporting guidance materials
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • CPA designation
  • Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., International Integrated Reporting Framework, Global Reporting Initiative,
  • Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and Canadian securities regulation (National Instrument 51-102 Continuous Disclosure Obligations)
