Job Description:
Join the Legal Services Team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive result-oriented legal support to internal business and support groups to contribute to CMHC’s overall objectives, and help us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support related to Board-level and operational policies.
- Provide legal support for CMHC’s housing finance programs, in particular, contribution and loan programs and mortgage loan insurance to support Indigenous and Northern Housing.
- Advise on risk and strategic issues, and manage these elements with internal stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
- Collaborate on developing strategic and high profile submissions to government.
- Support legislative monitoring across multiple jurisdictions.
- Assist overall in the delivery of Legal Services Division’s mandate.
- Act as subject matter expert in the legal fields related to the position.
Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability for team work.
- Demonstrated experience building professional relationships with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in managing multiple files under very tight deadlines.
- Membership of a Bar in any province or territory (common law or civil law) or the Chambre des notaires du Québec.
- Minimum of 5 years’ legal experience, in private or public sector firms or organizations, in the areas of development and construction financing on Indigenous lands or real estate or secured lending. Transactional, corporate/commercial work in relation to Indigenous matters will also be considered, as well as other Indigenous policy or litigation experience, if relevant to CMHC’s mandate.
