Job Description:

This position will work year-round with the Primetime Preschool and Camp Clarita programs developing and teaching age appropriate curriculum to cultivate young learners socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Primetime Preschool is a program that serves an average of 317 children per school year, providing Kindergarten readiness, while Camp Clarita serves an average of 575 campers per week in fun and adventurous activities. This position works approximately 29 hours per week with occasional hiatuses throughout the year (approximately seven weeks total). This position receives prorated benefits and is limited to no more than 1,352 hour per year, which includes occasional evening and weekend work as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, mentors, and leads part-time staff and children
  • Effectively addresses issues and concerns with children and parents as they arise
  • Assists staff with preparing program specific materials in the Child Development office when needed
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for program changes or enhancements
  • Assists with planning and working special events within division programs
  • Accurately maintains various records, forms, logs, and reports and follows the City’s retention policy
  • Leads informative parent meetings regarding specific program goals and objectives
  • Develops activities and lesson plans for Primetime Preschool and Camp Clarita programs to establish an academic enriched program
  • Assists coworkers and the public with questions and problems by phone and in-person and provides information about City programs and procedures
  • Assists with hiring, developing, and training Teacher’s Aides and Camp Counselors

  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to develop academic, age-appropriate curriculum
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to provide clear instructions to others and make public presentations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly and effectively resolve issues relating to child development and recreation programs
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to provide relevant information about programs and communicate in a tactful and positive manner with others
  • Strong ability to demonstrate confidentiality and professionalism as it relates to working with children and parents
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with City employees, children, and parents
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to be self-motivated and work both independently and as part of a team

Qualification & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years paid experience in preschool and/or child care programs with at least one year in a supervisor/teacher role
  • Completion of at least 12 units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) or degree equivalent
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver license and Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid within one month of hire
